Description:
Homer, Alaska is the best place on the planet to photograph Bald Eagles. It has been the favorite spot for National Geographic's photographers. Join Tom Collopy & Mary Frische for a rare opportunity to photograph these wonderful birds at close range, perched and in flight, while learning alongside two talented bird and nature photographers.

These workshops are scheduled during the most populous time of Bald Eagles in Homer. There will be a maximum of two participants per instructor, so each will have the opportunity to receive individualized attention to ensure that your photographic expectations are achieved.

Flights are available into Homer directly on Era Aviation from Anchorage, or you can stop in Anchorage instead which is about a four hour drive (depending on weather) from Homer. The workshop will focus on Bald Eagles, but we may also take advantage of other opportunities as they present themselves. Lenses of 70mm – 200mm are recommended for the majority of shooting situations and a zoom capable to reach 400mm or greater is helpful for bird photography. Although not a requirement, tripods may be necessary in some cases.

Flying into Anchorage and allowing yourself time to make the roughly four hour drive to Homer can provide for some wonderful photographic opportunities. The scenery is awesome and majestic, and often Dall Sheep, Bald Eagles and Moose can be found along the way. While in Homer, water taxies are readily available for trips around the bay in search of Sea Otters. Views from the Bluewateraviation Lodge are also spectacular.

Day 1 - Upon arrival in Homer you will be greeted via WildNorth Photography, assisted with your rental car pickup and directed to Bluewater Aviation Lodge, the private residence of Tom & Debbie Stroozas. For the remainder of the day, you will be on your own to explore Homer and prepare for your dream 5-day eagle photography extravaganza.

Days 2-6 - Each morning (weather permitting) you will venture to the famous Homer Spit where your viewfinders will be filled with images of Bald Eagles. You will be in awe as dozens of eagles surround you while you create images that will live in your memory forever. Each afternoon, your WildNorth guides will convene a professional critique and workshop session to hone and improve your skills for the next day's shoot. Evenings are free for you to work on your digital images with the on-site computer workstation. You are encouraged to bring your own laptop as well. The Bluewater Aviation Lodge does have internet service for your convenience. Since maximum light and shooting conditions exists between the hours of 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, there will be ample opportunity for everyone to explore the many local attractions that Homer has to offer.

Day 7 - All good things must come to an end including this memorable Alaskan adventure. Following a self-served early breakfast, you will return your rental car to the Homer airport for the return trip home. For those driving to Anchorage or other points, check out time is 11:00 AM.
